FAQs

What is a remote marine survey?

A remote marine survey is an inspection carried out using live video, photos, and digital documentation. Instead of a surveyor attending on board, a crew member, agent, or representative walks through the vessel with a smartphone or tablet while the surveyor directs the inspection in real time.

Remote surveys cost significantly less than physical surveys because:

  • No travel is required

  • No mobilisation costs

  • Minimal time lost waiting in port.

Prices vary depending on the vessel type, location, and survey scope. Fixed-fee quotes are available.

Are remote surveys accepted by insurers and P&I Clubs?

Yes. Most insurers and P&I Clubs accept remote surveys for preliminary assessments, damage reviews, condition checks, follow-up inspections and documentation checks.
For statutory or class-required surveys, physical attendance may still be necessary.

Can a remote survey replace a full pre-purchase survey on a yacht?

No. A remote survey is an excellent first step to evaluate whether the yacht is worth travelling to, but a full physical survey is always recommended before buying.

What types of surveys can be done remotely?

Remote surveys work well for:

  • Pre-purchase initial screening

  • Cargo condition and cargo damage inspections

  • Ship condition checks

  • On-hire / off-hire visual inspections

  • Yacht viewing and condition overview

  • Documentation and certificate review

  • Follow-up after repairs or yard work

Structural or invasive inspections still require on-site attendance.

What areas do you cover?

We provide:

  • Remote surveys worldwide, anywhere with a stable internet connection

What equipment is needed on board?

Only basic equipment is required:

  • Smartphone or tablet with a good camera

  • Stable 4G/5G or Wi-Fi connection

  • A crew member or representative is available to walk around the vessel

Optional but helpful:

  • Flashlight

  • Headphones

  • Portable power bank

How long does a remote survey take?

Most remote surveys last 90–120 minutes, depending on vessel size and survey scope.
Reports are typically delivered within 12–24 hours.
